You Learn By Doing
Let me lay out three scenarios and I want you to ponder if you've ever heard of them before. Then, think about what they all have in common. It will be a fun exercise. Ready?
Have you ever heard a pastor say he's "preaching to himself?"
Have you ever read a book and the author says how much they learned as a result of writing the book?
Have you ever heard a teacher say they learn more from their students than the students learn from them?
What's the common theme here? You learn by doing.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once expanded on this idea: “What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.” Choose to act, rather than to say. Choose to exemplify, rather than expect. Choose to demonstrate, rather than demand.
Actions > Words
Many people woke up this morning wishing they made better decisions twenty years ago. And twenty years from now many people will be waking up wishing they made better decisions today. Many people will wish they "did something."
And, as we know, the old Chinese proverb says, "The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now."
The best way to enjoy tomorrow is by being disciplined today. The best way to speak is with your actions, not your words. The best way to learn is by doing.
Time and time again in life, we see that one learns by doing. The best way out is sometimes through. Do it!
