Just Put Your Shoes On

We would all like to be the type of person who wakes up early and goes to the gym in the morning before work. Or perhaps going to the gym after work is more your cup of tea. Regardless of your preferred time, we would probably all like to be someone who prioritizes our physical health and follows through with taking action.

But going to the gym in the morning is hard. And going to the gym after work is also hard. Why is that?

Maybe you wake up tired and just the thought of going to run on a treadmill or move some weight kills the decision to get up and go. Or perhaps you come home after a long day at the office and just thinking about going to the gym to expel more energy is enough to prevent you from actually going.

Try this.

Just put your gym shoes on. That's it.

Once your gym shoes are on, your chances of going to the gym increase exponentially. Once your gym shoes are on, the chances of you taking them off and slipping back into bed or retreating to the couch decrease dramatically.

Like anything in life, it's difficult to achieve our goals because we envision all the work it takes to get there and that crushes our chances of beginning the process.

Just get started. Get the ball rolling. A little action often spurs a lot of momentum.

And here's the kicker: today might be the best chance you have to take action.

Because the longer you wait, the more deeply embedded you get in your current lifestyle.

Your habits solidify. Your beliefs harden. You get comfortable.

It will never be easy, but it may also never be easier than it is right now.

Just put your gym shoes on. Get started!
